The Live Presenter feature in Live Channel can be used to create rich media web presentations and synchronize them with a live broadcast. The live presentation is presented on a web page, and can be viewed using a web browser.
How does it work?
The broadcaster uses Live Channel to synchronize the live broadcast with additional media, which can be presented on the web page next to the live video. When instructed by the broadcaster, Live Channel sends a message to the viewer's browser to open a file from a pre-defined location (URL) on the web, and present it in a pre-defined area (frame) in the browser window.
Preparing a Live Presentation
Create a web page for your presentation. This web page should be included in your web site, so viewers can open it in order to watch the presentation in their web browsers.
Make sure the page is divided into frames: One frame for displaying the live stream, and at least one more frame for displaying additional presentation media.
Create a reference movie to your live stream - you can use the "Announce Server" command in Live Channel to create the reference movie.
Embed the reference movie in your web page, in the frame intended for the live stream.
Name the frame in the web page intended for the additional presentation media - you will need to use the frame name to present your presentation media in that frame during your live broadcast.
Note: You can use any popular HTML Editor to create a web page with frames, name the frames, and embed your reference movie in the appropriate frame.
Preparing the Presentation Media
Your presentation media may include any files which the viewer's browser is capable of displaying, including image, video, music, animation, text and HTML files.
The presentation media files should be stored on your web server. Remember the exact names and locations of the files on the server - you will need to use those names to present the media during your live broadcast.
Note: If you have created a slide presentation, you can use your presentation software to save the presentation slides as a series of enumerated image files for your synchronized presentation.
Setting up the Broadcast
Before starting your live broadcast, open the broadcast settings window in Live Channel, and make sure the "Live Presentation Stream" option is checked.
You may already type the name of the first media file you intend to present in the "Present File:" field in the broadcast information window.
You may already type the name of the frame intended for presenting the media files in the "In Frame:" field in the broadcast information window.
Note: The information typed in the reference field is not sent to the viewer until you click the "Present" button during the live broadcast.
Synchronizing the Live Presentation
During the live broadcast, type in the "Present File:" field the name of the media file you want to present. If the file is stored on the server in a different location (directory) from the web page, the location path must precede the file name.
Make sure the "In Frame:" field contains the name of the frame you want the browser to present the media file in.
Click the "Present" button to present the media file.
If your presentation media contains a list of enumerated files, you may use the up and down arrows next to the present file field to increase or decrease the number in the file name.
You may also use the "Present Next" and "Present Previous" commands in the broadcast menu to change the file number and present the file automatically.
Note: If you present a media file in a frame name which is not defined in your web page, the viewer's browser will display the file in a new window.
Warning: If the file you present does not exist on the server, or it's name or location are not typed accurately, the viewer's browser will display an error message.
Bandwidth Considerations
If your viewers' connection to the Internet has a limited bandwidth, take into account that when you use Live Channel to present a media file in the browser, the browser will use some of that bandwidth to load the media file from your server. Try to make your media files as lightweight as possible to minimize interruptions to the live stream.
